Claude Code /batch Is Like Hiring a Whole Painting Crew

Claude Code's /batch command splits a large coding job across parallel AI workers instead of finishing every file one at a time.

If you use AI to write code, you know the wait: one file, then the next, then the next. Claude Code's /batch command looks for work that can happen independently and assigns those jobs to parallel AI workers.

One painter versus a whole crew

A normal AI coding session can feel like hiring one painter to do a whole hotel. With /batch, Claude identifies independent rooms, assigns a worker to each one, and lets you review the work as the person walking the halls.

Claude shows you the plan first

Describe the complete job after /batch. Claude reads the project, decides which pieces can run safely in parallel, and presents the plan before the workers begin.

Every worker owns a separate job

For a JavaScript-to-TypeScript migration, Claude can group independent files or features into separate jobs. Each worker makes its changes and runs the checks that fit its assignment.

You still inspect the finished rooms

Parallel work is not a substitute for review. Check the combined changes and run the project's full test suite before you ship them.

    Frequently asked questions

What does /batch do in Claude Code?
It analyzes a larger coding request and divides suitable independent work among parallel AI workers.
Should I use /batch for every task?
No. Use it for larger jobs with independent pieces. A one-file edit or tightly connected sequence is usually better as a normal request.
