Can AI build a website for free?

Yes — this workflow is proof. You build your site on Lovable's free plan, connect it to GitHub, then use Google Antigravity's free AI agents to make unlimited edits. Between the two free tiers, you can build and maintain a real website without paying for either tool.

What is Google Antigravity?

Google Antigravity is Google's free agentic coding environment. Its AI agents plan, write, and test code on their own from plain-English instructions, with Gemini and Claude models in a built-in model picker. Downloading it takes a regular Google account — no Google Cloud setup.

Is Google Antigravity really free?

Yes. Google has paid AI tiers, but Antigravity itself — Antigravity 2.0 plus the IDE — is free to download and use with a regular Google account. No Google Cloud setup required.

Do I need Claude Code for this to work?

No — Antigravity is the best free Claude Code alternative I've found for this workflow. My previous route used Claude Code, which is only free if you already pay for it. Antigravity includes Gemini and Claude models in its own model picker at no cost.

Will editing this way use my Lovable credits?

No. Credits are only spent on messages in Lovable's chat. Changes pushed to GitHub from Antigravity sync back into Lovable for free. In the video I show my credits at 170 before the edit and 170 after.

Why does Antigravity keep asking for permissions?

On first run it requests access for everything it does — launching servers, editing files, running commands. That's normal. Approve the prompts and it settles down after the first session.

What if I already have Claude Code?

Then my previous GitHub + Claude Code workflow still works great. Antigravity is the route for people who don't already pay for Claude Code and want a genuinely free option.

How it works

Three steps. Ten minutes.

One prerequisite: your Lovable project needs to be connected to GitHub. If it's not, my last video walks through the two-minute toggle — it's the same connection no matter which tool you use after.

Step 01
Connect Lovable to GitHub
In your Lovable project, open Settings → Git and make sure two-way sync with GitHub is on. Copy the repo link — that's what Antigravity uses to pull your files. (Same two-minute toggle from my last video.)
Step 02
Install Google Antigravity
Go to the Google Antigravity site, download Antigravity 2.0 and the Antigravity IDE, install both, and log in with your Google account. No paid plan, no Google Cloud setup.
Step 03
Clone, edit, and push back
In the IDE, click Clone Repository and paste your Lovable GitHub link. Ask the agent to open the site locally, make your edit in plain English, then tell it to push to GitHub. Lovable syncs the change — zero credits spent.

Once your repo is cloned into Antigravity, this is the entire workflow. Expect a lot of permission popups the first time — approve them and it settles down.

Can you open this site up locally?

Then: <describe your change in plain English,
e.g. "add a moving test graphic at the top of the page">

When you're happy with it: push to GitHub.

After the push, reload your Lovable preview — it will sync the change straight from GitHub. Your credit count won't budge.
