Premiere Pro · Claude Code · MCP

Connect Premiere Pro to Claude Code—and edit by asking.

Cut silence and retakes, add real zoom keyframes, build animated graphics, mix music, inspect the timeline, and find Shorts—all from plain-English requests.

    Watch the full workflow

The video was edited with the setup it teaches.

The opening retakes, punch-ins, background music, custom setup graphic, audio cleanup, export checks, and Shorts suggestions all came through Claude Code.

    The exact setup

Two free tools, one command, one open panel.

Use a test project or a duplicate sequence first. Premiere's Undo and saved project versions are still your safety net.

    1. 1

      Install Node

Node runs the connection between Claude Code and Premiere Pro. Install the current stable version, then reopen your terminal so the command is available.

    2. 2

      Install FFmpeg

FFmpeg lets the setup analyze audio, including silence, speech, music beats, and loudness. Confirm it is available from your terminal before moving on.

    3. 3

      Add the Premiere Pro connection

Open a terminal and run the command below. It registers the Premiere Pro MCP with Claude Code.

      claude mcp add premiere-pro -- npx -y premiere-pro-mcp
    4. 4

Open the bridge panel in Premiere

Open your Premiere project and an active sequence, then open the bridge panel included with the package. Leave that panel open while Claude works.

    5. 5

      Verify before editing

Open Claude Code and ask: “Verify my Premiere connection.” If it is not green, first confirm Premiere is open, a sequence is active, and the bridge panel is still open.

    Let Claude propose changes first

For destructive work such as cutting pauses or retakes, ask for timestamps and wait for your approval. Save the project and duplicate the sequence before your first test.

    Copy and customize

Six useful prompts from the video.

Run one request at a time and inspect the result. Specific instructions produce safer edits than asking Claude to “make it better.”

    Clean pauses

“Find every silence longer than one second and show me each gap with its timestamp. Wait for my approval before cutting anything.”

Claude reads the waveform, identifies the gaps, and lets you review the proposed cuts first.

    Remove retakes

“Find the lines I repeated, group each repeated sentence, keep the last take, and leave a frame at every cut so nothing sounds clipped. Show me the proposed changes before applying them.”

Useful when the same opening or sentence took several tries.

    Add punch-ins

“Find the moments where I emphasize a point and add a subtle punch-in zoom using real scale keyframes. Show me the timestamps before applying them.”

Adds movement to a talking-head edit without manually placing every keyframe.

    Build a graphic

“Build an animated graphic in Remotion that shows my three setup steps in my brand colors. Render it, import it into this Premiere project, and place it above my footage when I begin explaining the setup.”

Claude can create the animation as code, render it, import it, and place it on the timeline.

    Mix the music

“Add my background track under the whole video, duck it whenever I am talking, and bring it back up in the gaps. Then find the beats and show me where B-roll cuts could land on them.”

Handles the repetitive first pass of dialogue ducking and beat finding.

    Check the finished edit

“Audit my timeline. Score it out of 100 and list every flash frame, unintended gap, black frame, or frozen frame with a timecode. Do not change anything until I approve the list.”

Gives you a final inspection list before export rather than silently changing the cut.

    Before you publish

Use Claude for the boring final checks too.

“Add noise reduction to my voice track and let me compare before and after.”

“Check this export against YouTube's -14 LUFS loudness target and scan for black or frozen frames.”

“Find the best moments for vertical Shorts and rank them with start and end timecodes.”

    Troubleshooting

Fix the connection before blaming the prompt.

    Claude cannot see Premiere

Keep Premiere open with an active sequence, then reopen the bridge panel and run the connection check again.

    The MCP command fails

Confirm Node is installed and available in a newly opened terminal. Then rerun the command exactly as shown.

    Audio analysis does not work

Confirm FFmpeg is installed and callable from your terminal. Restart Claude Code after fixing the installation.

    Cuts feel clipped

Undo the change and ask Claude to leave a frame or a short handle around each edit. Always review the proposed timestamps first.

    A graphic covers the subject

Ask Claude to move it to a specific corner, shorten its duration, or place it on a higher track while keeping your footage untouched.

Premiere Pro and Claude Code questions

Keep the creative decisions. Hand off the repetitive clicks.

Claude does not replace your eye for the edit. It gives you back the hours spent finding gaps, placing keyframes, and checking files.
