    How to Book a Southwest Flight With Your Companion

    You've earned the Companion Pass — now use it. Here's the exact booking flow, plus the taxes-and-fees math for domestic and international routes.

    The booking flow

    1. Step 01

      Designate your Companion in your Rapid Rewards account

      Log in at Southwest.com → My Account → Rapid Rewards → Companion Pass. Enter your Companion's name and date of birth exactly as it appears on their ID. You can change your Companion up to 3 times per calendar year.

    2. Step 02

      Book your own flight first

      Search and book your flight normally — with cash or points, any fare class (Wanna Get Away, Anytime, Business Select). The Companion Pass works on all of them.

    3. Step 03

      Add your Companion after your booking is confirmed

      From your confirmation email or 'Manage Reservations,' click 'Add Companion.' You'll pay only the taxes and fees — roughly $5.60 each way on domestic flights, higher for international.

    4. Step 04

      Check in together

      Check in exactly 24 hours before departure to get the best boarding position. The Companion gets the same boarding group as you.
